It is imperative that you abide by the rules to allow you to bring your pet back into the UK on your return from Europe without them going into lengthy quarantine.

Your pet will need to be microchipped and vaccinated against rabies three weeks before the passport is valid. It must also be wormed 24 to 72 hours before returning to the UK. Go to the website for full details.

Apart from rabies, your pet is at risk of other diseases while abroad including Leishmaniosis, which is transmitted by sand flies to dogs. Heartworm, as the name suggests, is a parasitic worm which lives in the heart of the animal, while babesiosis, ehrlichiosis are both tick-borne diseases.
